NSX Cloud

In this demo, you will see how NSX is able to provide network and security services for workloads existing in an on-prem cloud and in modern public cloud services.  Here we are using the same cordsshop app and will show how NSX can be used to connect and protect workloads (part of cordsshop) existing in native AWS and Azure accounts.

Verify Environment

NSX Configuration

First, let's review the environment and take a look at how a number of items that get configured for this cross cloud solution.

  1. Click Fabric
  2. Click Transport Nodes. Take notice of the detail on Config/Status and Location
    • ESXi-1 = On-prem 
    • PublicCloudGatewayNode/NSX-Hybrid-Vnet-Preferred = Azure
    • PublicCloudGatewayTN-vpc-c232b2bb = AWS

CSM Configuration

To verify the information shown in NSX Manager, next we will take a look through Cloud Services Manager at the various components that have been configured based on the current state of the environment.

  1. Press "TAB" to switch to the CSM browser tab
  2. Click Clouds
  3. Click the AWS cloud. Take notice of the details
    • Status : Configured and up
    • Regions : 15
    • VPCs : 25
    • Instances: 30
  4. Click the VPC drop-down
  5. Click to scroll the list
  6. Click to select NSX-Hybrid-VPC-1
  7. Click to scroll Instances down
  8. Take notice of cordsshop virtual machines
    • cordsshop-aws-web-2b-1
    • cordsshop-aws-web-2b-2
    • cordsshop-aws-web-2a-1
    • cordsshop-aws-web-2a-2
  9. Click the Azure Cloud. Take notice of the details
    • Status : Configured and up
    • Regions : 2
    • VNets : 3
    • Instances: 11
  10. Click NSX-CC-Subscription Account
  11. Click Instances
  12. Click the VNets drop-down
  13. Click and select NSX-Hybrid-Vnet
  14. Take notice of cordsshop instances
    • cordsshop-azure-web-2a-1
    • cordsshop-azure-web-2a-1

Cross Cloud Networking and Security

NSX Configuration

  1. Press "TAB" to switch to the NSX Manager browser tab
  2. Click Inventory
  3. Click Virtual Machines
  4. Click the second AWS web VM cordsshop-aws-web-2a-2. Take notice of the detail on the Overview window

    • State = Running
    • IP Address =
  5. Click Tags
  6. Verify configuration details
